Electric motor bearings fail for a variety of reas

Electric motor bearings fail for a variety of reasons but the two most common reasons for electrical failure are circulating and common mode currents. While circulating currents are found in all motors, the risk to the motor bearings is proportional to the motor frame size. It is a general rule that motors over 100hp should have insulated bearings installed.
However, insulated bearings DO NOT solve the issue of common mode.
Shaft grounding solutions. like Helwig's BPK, are the ideal mitigation method for common mode caused by VFD-induced electrical discharges. Common mode can lead to premature bearing failure, costly repairs, and downtime.
